Not James but John

An adoption at the cross

a meddling of the strands

the threads of Christ’s life

in His words from the cross

An adoption, a melding

a stitching together, mending,

joining His mother

with the one He loved.

An adoption, a melding

not James, but John

given the responsibility

to care for Mary,

Christ’s mother in life.
