Acid burns – v3

our estrangement from God

understood in the graphic language

in the vomit from our hearts

burning our friends, our neighbors

acid burns, not love

when we spew such bile

Choices which we make

some selfish, some careless,

our words and our actions

spoken in haste, in anger,

leaving acid burns, not love,

scars on our friends, lasting,

marks on our neighbors

those we claim to love

a false mirror on our God

from those who claim Christ’s name

something of the Spirit – 2 – v2

something of the Spirit

the fruits of our union

of our gifts and talents

the merging of our strengths

something of God

in our journey together

something of Christ

of submission, sacrifice

in the choices we make

something of the Spirit

in our journey together

in our coming together

in our time here on earth

something of God

calling us as one

journeying together

guided by love.

Acid splashing on others – v2

The bile of our words

spewed without thinking

the acid of our actions

our self-centered choices

our thoughtlessness,

the harm of our voices

cutting into flesh

Acid splashing on others

the vomit of our hearts

the words that we spit out

harm long remaining

acid burns of actions

thinking only of ourselves

not heeding the words of scripture

Dancers on the Branch

As if sitting in an October baseball dugout,
or maybe more simple,
like awkward boys at their first dance
sitting on the bleachers

Meager ribbons, streamers,
not masquerading the gymnasium
dancers on the branch
waiting for the caller

The leaves like the dancers
in their true colors, their finery,
waiting for the wind, for the dance
for the melody, the rhythm

Festooned, imbued, with the reds
the yellows of autumn
but pensive on the branches,
knowing the one dance is their death

evil things come from within

evil thoughts, evil action
evil come from within
welling up, repugnant
stealing our lives
our fortune, reputation
evil things come from within
defiling a person.

vomit from the heart

sins of our lives
what we do, what we say
not what we are given
but we spew out
vomit from the heart
our choices to think of ourselves
harming others
splashing acid on their lives
not caring for our neighbors
failing the name we claim
setting us apart
estranged from one another
estranged from our God

Acid of our Words

Hardly true, that words will never hurt us,
the opposite the truth,
there is acid in our words, our choices
what we say to one another
scars from the vomit
permanent marks remaining
years needed for healing
sometimes longer yet
What we say has consequence
our sin, the bile within,
what comes out of us pollutes
leaving lasting marks

Understanding Sin as Vomit

Ancient words of truth
in a modern diction
understanding sin as vomit
welling up within us
pouring out on the world
effecting our family, our neighbors
how we are set apart from God
wallowing in our filth
the consequence of our choices.

Scars of the acid

scars of the acid
bile spewed at them
the choices I made in life
affecting my fellow man
the words that I chose
the choice of what to do
estranging me from God
and from my neighbor too.

Scars slow healing

The splash of our words
the cut of our actions
like bile deep within
vomit of our heart
Hurled at the world
burning our neighbors
scars slow to heal
the acid of our choices

Mark 7:21-23 (NIV)
Mark 7:20-23 (The Message)
‘He (Christ) went on: "It's what comes out of a person that pollutes:
obscenities, lusts, thefts, murders, adulteries, greed, depravity,
deceptive dealings, carousing, mean looks, slander, arrogance,
foolishness—all these are vomit from the heart.
There is the source of your pollution."’
