applause like rain – v2

In the midst of her pain,
in her grief, her profound loss
as she spoke words of love
for the man, her father,
saying these words, his creed,
that “America was always great,”
in the great cathedral…

Listening to these words,
hearing the response
applause like rain, thundering,
echoing off the marble
hard-wood boards of the pews
the fabric of our nation
testifying to what we believe…

Common people chanting, shouting, defiant,
speaking aloud his crimes, His name.
Navalny's name has been engraved
on the hearts of man, humanity,
and chiseled into history, for all time...

The carpet wet with her tears – v2

The familiar strange with newness,
secret conversations, in the hallway, the kitchen,
acting as a mediator, a go between,
standing between hostile forces.

One voice raised against the others,
contorted, twisted in pain, in rage.
Shocked at the lies, the betrayal
the choosing, the picking of sides.

The carpet wet with her tears, in the sanctuary,
hot with her shouts, her cries in anguish,
Raised to her protector, her father,
Gone now, in the grave.
