on the rim of the spinning top – v5

Sitting at the outskirts of the Milky Way
surfing the fine edges
bold, larger than life
as if we were able to imaging
standing on the rim of the spinning top;
No traction, no purchase,
holding on by mere balance
making it so,
holding on to their humanity
by a force of will alone

Buffeted, spinning
riding the chaos, the tempest
caught in the maelstrom
of arguments, of power,
yanked, twisted, turning,
holding on for dear life;
Wanting only to listen
to advocate for wisdom
for peace in this moment
not greater conflict

Warring factions swinging
bombs flying, Molotov cocktails hurled
battle lives hardened,
in the midst of the conflagration
standing in center of the storm,
the fire of passion, objectives;
The switchbacks of conversations
out of focused, confusion
some picking rocky outcrops
finding no common ground

Is this the model
what we desire
our way of empathy
picking sides, choices,
hearing divergent voices
caught in that middle
but not valuing their feelings;
The push and the pull
wanting to calm the waters
but the oil is on fire, ablaze

riding the tempest – v5

We are buffeted, spinning
sometimes in the middle
seeking to center, to be grounded
when chaos surrounds us;
We are riding the tempest
caught in the maelstrom
holding on for dear life

We are yanked, twisted,
pulled in both directions
unreasonable statements
uncompromising positions;
We want only to listen
to advocate for justice
for peace in this moment

The warring factions are swinging
their children in the middle
caught in the turmoil, the swearing,
not thinking rationally, with their guts;
The battle lines are written, hardened,
in the midst of the conflagration
standing in the crucible, the storm

The fire of passion, of position,
in the switchbacks of conversation
hurling bombs, expletives
some picking hard sides;
Taking polar opposite positions
just for sport, to torment,
falling back into easy, familiar, combat

Is this the model, the path,
the way of empathy, of the law
to reach consensus, or justice,
hearing divergent voices;
We need to reach compromise,
but they do not valuing their feelings,
everything clouded by hate, by rage

riding the tempest – v4

buffeted, spinning, off-kilter,
sometimes in the middle
seeking to center, to be grounded
riding the tempest
caught in the maelstrom
holding on for dear life

jerked, yanked, twisted,
pulled in both directions
wanting only to listen
to advocate for justice
for peace in this moment
but caught in the twisting

warring factions swinging
not thinking rationally, with their guts,
battle lines written, hardened,
in the midst of the conflagration
standing in the crucible, the storm
with hardened postures

the fire of passion, position,
in the switchbacks of conversation
some picking hard sides
polar opposites
just for sport
the battle engaged

is this the model, the habit,
the way of empathy
to reach consensus, or justice,
hearing divergent voices
needing to reach compromise
but not valuing their feelings

on the rim of the spinning top – v2

at the outskirts of the milky way
surfing the fine edges
larger than life
as if we were able
on the rim of the spinning top
no traction, no purchase
holding on by mere balance
making it so

buffeted, spinning

no common ground

is this the model
what we desire
our way of empathy
hearing divergent voices
but not valuing their feelings
caught in that middle
the push and the pull
wanting to calm the waters
but the oil is on fire
