For an instant on Sunday
in the pausing after the amen
I could see the capillary action
the infusing of the bread
with the wine, the juice
flowing up into the
sacrificial flesh
taking on a moment
of anima, before I finished
my prayer, ate the body, the blood
of the sacrifice, the lamb, the shepherd
the savior, our brother
