The cluster of clover
as a child’s hands, small, living
in miniature the tuft of green
the large plant they will become
nascent, but perfect in miniature
yearning this cold dreary spring day
for the rays of sunlight, the warmth of summer
the flowering and the bees pollinating
the lush color foretold in the tiny leaves
pushing up through the playground mulch
