Christ, sitting in heaven
beside the living God
part of the trinity
father, son, and spirit
several and yet one
Setting aside his deity
following the master’s plan
coming to earth as a baby
walking as a man
Going before us as a sacrifice
fulfilling the law, prophecy
taking on the form of a servant
a slave to sin he would be
Carrying our cross,
the weight of our disobedience
poured into him, to overflowing
the long walk to Jerusalem
more than we could make
On him, though human,
God, Emmanuel
the Messiah promised in centuries past
walking on earth as a man
Washing away the stain of our sin
our wrongs forgiven forever
whiter than any sheets could be cleaned
redeemed, prepared for heaven
In his example, a way to live
taking on the mind of Christ
carrying him deep in our hearts
guided by the spirit within
