Bread from the Passover Table

Hearing Peter’s words
intoning the Great Thanksgiving
God raising his body
from the Passover table
raising for them, for all of us
the priest preparing the sacrifice
the most precious gift ever given
raising a cup of his blood
offering thanks to God
the sacrifice readied
given to each one of us
that we would ever remember
as we remember too the Passover
the earlier covenant
the same then as now
of God’s protection for his people
saving us from death
from his holy wrath
forgiving us, through Christ,
redeeming us from certain death
into his holy light
into the very presence of God
alive with us now
and forevermore
