a snake in the grass, a wolf
in sheep’s clothing
hiding behind a mask of
friendship
offering an open hand
yet hiding a heart of
darkness
different in the flesh,
exposed
not faithful in the path,
the journey
true to the creed, our
belief
not truly offering true kindness
the mockers on the sideline,
calling
they sit in mocking judgment
power corrupting,
ultimately,
others too timid to speak
needing to speak boldly, out
loud
hiding in the bushes, as if
they were in Oz,
hiding behind a mask of
friendship
but a blight upon the land
