Menacing Insects – v2

A big fat black dirigible of a fly
careening around the office
buzzed me, like a test pilot and the tower.
I could feel its clumsy wake
the lurch of its glide path
Before it landed on the wall
taunting me to strike back

Carol said, “They’re huge this time of year,
you could almost put a saddle on them.”
I would laugh even more if it wasn’t so true.

The banter reminded me of the June Bug
that flew into the tip of my nose
last week on the walk to my car
at the end of another work day;
Leading me to laugh at
the silliest workers’ comp claim in history
When I got whiplash from the impact.

Oh what the paperwork would have been
