They once were even
matched to one another
the stones in their season
placed just so, perfect
Now lichen covered
years of wind and rain
snow and ice in their season
seeking to chip away
The rough-hewn granite
gathered from the fields
placed just so in another season
falling in this time, broken
Needing hands, care,
to lift the stones
matching them together
once more with a purpose
to be a measuring line
