in a nation divided

We see the pain, the anger
the breaks in civil society
we see protest and hate-crimes
as the fissures become deeper
shards of the mirror only
as we shatter into our segments

We must stand together
we must join with Jesus
in a nation divided
by race, by sex, by power,
by infinite permutations
of ancient, primal, sects

We must stand united
as part of the living body
we must be at work sharing
the living waters of Christ
we must be a refuge
in the darkness of these times
