In a moment unplanned, sacred,
a secret given form, substance
a lie came to life, alive…
Thinking about that history,
The bard became my muse
speaking across time…

Why did he whisper to me,
In the darkness of the cottage,
The bard of Scotland, calling,
In that room where he was born,
A repeating phrase in my spirit,
Unlike any in time…

I had never written verse,
I never knew I had that talent,
an accountant for fifteen years,
I had no sense of rhyme or meter,
I didn’t have a clue about cadence,
or ways to speak truth to others…

Why did Burns whisper to me,
oh, how I remember these words,
“a hope, a prayer, a wish, a promise…”
words conjured from the ether,
echoing in my body, my spirit,
wanting to give birth to life…

They were transformative, freedom,
Able to grab hold of a calling,
Sharing these words before others,
Hearing the affirmations, release
washing over me like oil,
knowing my purpose in life…
