the ruin of his country,
the scorched earth of Russia,
under the boot of oppression,
the sovereign, their masters,
ruling with an iron fist…

the plight of his people,
enslaved by the madman,
crushed by their fate,
no brother, no compassion,
just held in their brutal grip…

the ruin of his country,
of his homeland, his people,
manifest in their slavery,
the menace of the Moskals,
the Tsar in St. Petersburg…
