as I have loved you – v2 #Christ #commandment #John13

Love, a new commandment,

not superficially, casually, more
than “loving your neighbor as yourself”,
the ancient words of the law…
No, Jesus doesn’t stop there,
with ancient words of scripture…
He commands us to go further,
to love more deeply, sacrificially,
if we are to be His disciples…
 
This God who entered time,
who descended from heaven,
from eternity, into creation,
who became clay, mortal, flesh,
who sacrificed for each of us,
God, who suffered and died
to give us each new life…
Christ calls us to go further,
To love “as I have loved you”…
 
Christ cuts right through us
He gives us no easy escape…
With these words of conviction,
with these words, this commandment…
We must love, we must serve,

We must see our neighbors fully,
We must sacrifice for one another…
We must love as Jesus loves us,
God who died to set us free…
