A pond remaining, open,
Frigid temperatures falling,
Storehouses full, ready,
For warmer months to come…
 
After the harvest of ice,
Older ways repeated,
A scar for a moment

They brought the virus with them

 
They sought to escape the city
the lockdown of the early pandemic,
opening Summer camps in Winter
to be, to live, to breathe free;
 
but they brought the virus with them
sneezing, coughing before me, unmasked,
acknowledging they were the local statistics
I heard on TV at night.

The bear cub

Just off the woods road,
jarred by the Jeep's headlights,
a flurry of motion
the black bear cub startled
melting, a shadow,
over the stone wall
becoming one with the forest
The Maine Woods
the growing darkness
that still starry night.

Forever is the Mountain – v3

Through the thick haze of late Summer

a clear white starkness of mid-Winter

in the shades of greens and bright colors

of Springtime and Autumn.

 

The tapestry, the tableau, the palette

our story is ever changing, fluid,

as the seasons, our days,

as our journey unfolds.

 

Changing colors, feelings,

the scene may seem different

each day, each season, each moment;

but the Mountain remains constant.

 

Forever is the Mountain

eternal, unchanging, always

the Mountain is there, before us,

even when the Mountain is lost from our view.
