Turning Christ over to Caesar – v4

The men in judgment
these leaders of the people
the Sanhedrin, the priests,
judging our Savior

Turning Christ over to Caesar
God’s chosen people
finding the Messiah
unworthy (blasphemy!)

Sending Christ to the Cross
to the skull, Golgotha
the judgment upon us
become our sacrifice

A Sinister Presence – v7

After Judas left the upper room
evil stalked the night;
a sinister presence building,
blotting out the light.

Gathered up in the night
arrested in darkness;
a kangaroo court, judgment,
by God’s chosen people.

Bound, condemned,
given over to Caesar;
the Light of the world, the Messiah
to die a violent death.

an illusion of freedom – v7

The people choosing force
not seeing Christ before them
not seeing God, the Word
Love come from heaven
Barabbas seeking rebellion
to overthrow the Romans
an illusion of freedom
when Pilate set him free
But he was still a prisoner
Christ was the true freedom
his life to atone for us
paying the price for us
He balanced the scales
squaring the ledgers
God’s judgment on us
the price paid by God

Jesus the Christ – v4

Choosing Jesus
my brother, the Shepherd
the Christ, the Messiah
Son of the living God

He will I follow
leaving my possessions
turning from this world
following my Lord

Taking up my cross
the call deep within
listening when the voice
calls me out of my comfort

Out of my pew
my experience, my place
taking me, going
wherever I am led

Set Free While He Was Sentenced – v4

Barabbas and Jesus
two sons of the father
standing before Caesar
the true power before them
Pilate only the proxy
representing Roman power
the crowd, the mob shouting
“give us Barabbas”,
a common criminal set free
a revolutionary, insurgent
while the king was sentenced
Death to the Messiah
our God, Emmanuel

Arousing Their Anger – v3

The righteous, the leaders
in the things that he said
their power crumbling
as the people came to believe

Arousing their anger
Christ in Jerusalem
now in the Temple
questioning their faith

Blind to the truth
the Messiah in their midst
only seeing the threat
the coming of the storm

Holding onto their power
paying a horrible cost
judging Emmanuel guilty
the Lamb upon the cross

Set Free While He Was Sentenced – v3

Barabbas and Jesus
two sons of the father
standing before Caesar
Pilate only the proxy
representing Roman power
the crowd, the mob shouting
“give us Barabbas”,
a common criminal set free
a revolutionary, insurgent
while the king was sentenced
Death to the Messiah
God, Emmanuel

A Sinister Presence – v4

After Judas left the room
evil stalked the night
a sinister presence building
blotting out the light

Gathered up in the night
arrested in darkness
a kangaroo court, judgment
by God’s chosen people

The Savior, Messiah
but they did not see him
too  busy holding power
judging their fellow man

Bound, condemned
given over to Caesar, to Pilate,
light of the world, the Messiah
to die a violent death
