Forgiveness Expressed – v2

Forgiveness given voice
forgiveness lived out;
Forgiveness expressed
good in the face of such evil.
Mercy granted, given,
grace beyond measure;
Forgiveness given voice
in the words of his victims

mercy not hate – v2

mercy not hate,
forgiveness not revenge,
for the one who hurt them
for what he had done
for what he had taken

love, not revenge,
forgiveness offered;
the calling of God
the way of the servant

love of Christ
of the grace that falls
that rains upon us;
unmerited love
from the heart of God

confronting our past, our present, our hate – v2

we join in moving forward, now, this moment,
to change our lives, the lives we will now must live
to a life of action, not merely of words, of conversation
informed about our past, the legacy which we are a part of

the living out of a life of faith, more worthy
of the creed we hold dear, aware of grace, of the pain
pain which we have caused, that we yet cause
in the uninformed life, in our blindness

our former lives revealed, laid bare, exposed,
the sin we must never forget, repenting
of our former lives, our legacy, and the yoke
the burden of the legacy of our ancestors

those who have gone before us, the harm
they may have caused, our complicit legacy
to leave behind, to move forward, unburdened
shaken off forevermore, to be empowered,

we are emboldened to seek justice,
in this country, this time, this place,
under the living light, the grace
the boundless mercy of our God
