the skin of an ancient reptile – v2

the skin of an ancient reptile
conjured from a DNA sample
a city-scape of the arteries and capillaries
seen in close-up, under the microscope,
far from its razor-sharp teeth

alive in the image, this moment
captured before it withered
separated from the vine, the life-force
knitting it within time, in space,
in the blessings of this place

Snake Brains on the Courthouse Steps

Fear, panic
reason dissolving
anxious, impatient
wanting to run
Seeking compromise
decision, impossible
devolving to the primitive
in the grip of the snake
