An old valued friend, riding in the front seat
brown and white, chin turning grey
hanging out the black pickup
standing on the door’s window
catching the cool air
his ears each a sail in the wind
out for a drive with his human
aware of my gaze, smiling
coming through the crossroads
a commercial for Spring
