Not for credit, not to show off
not to be seen as pious
She said it simply,
in response to my remarking
she was wearing her cross
outside her clothes
so everyone would know
she was a Christian,
claimed by the Christ
a child of the king
Matter of fact,
but with a sweet smile
growing across her face
her faith displayed, her life marked
opening conversations
as the one we enjoyed
Sharing her faith, wearing her cross
the symbol of his sacrifice
his love, his grace offered
on the outside for all to see
