We think of the fishermen
the first disciples
their hands doing
the work of the church
Each of them chosen
called by the Shepherd
to follow Him completely
in love and submission
The humble King guiding
us in this life
showing us an example
of servanthood and sacrifice
To continue His work
to be the carpenter’s hands
using all we have
to lift up our fellow man

With His Calloused Hands
Not a member of the elite
never sitting, studying in the Temple
working, with his calloused hands
the nets, the water, this was his life
Beginning the church, this foundation
ordinary men, laity, common
spreading the word
the truth of God’s love
to the ends of the earth
