our sisters and brothers
those crying out
given short shrift
Only a few seconds
to plead their cases
the line long
to argue for their lives
The services being cut
the programs eliminated
the advocates removed
who serve our neighbors
All of this coming
in times of trial
yet we are still wealth
safe in our beds
Where is the shared sacrifice
the honor to our burden
the responsibility of society
to aid those in need
What are we doing
to bear the burden
shifting the costs to others
who have no voices
Pushing the cuts down
onto our neighbors
blind to the pain
that we will cause them
Driving home
in the warmth of our possessions
surrounded by our wealth
do we still hear their cries
Don’t leave us
don’t desert us
don’t leave us
to die alone
Care for our neighbors
our sisters and brothers
this is a war
and we are on the wrong side
