The vipers John called out
seated in power
claiming their path righteous
while they stand on their neighbors
those who count on us
The language he used
denying their piety
their repentance hollow
when compared to their actions
hurting those in need
So in this time
the vipers in power
wielding the mace
putting us in chains
The voice of the innocents
the balance of society
the haves taking their pound of flesh
from those who have nothing
just struggling to live
What would Jesus say
if he stood in the committee room
would he overturn the tables
as he did in the temple
would he weep for this generation
lost in depravity
