In Our Silence, Real Prayer

Something of the sequence
the fruit of silence is prayer
in our silence, able to hear
the musings of the Lord

In the quiet of our selves
the stillness within
in our silence, real prayer
a dialogue with God

Not some drive-by petition
thrown in the mailbox
a real authentic communion
ourselves and our God

Leading us to action
to a strengthening of faith
able to be true witness
to the peace we find in God

Only in the silence
may our prayers be lifted up
only in the silence listening
when the Master fills our cup

In that silence,
in the filling of us
are we able to be poured out
a blessing for the Lord

“Michelle and I join with millions of Christians
here and across the world to mark Ash Wednesday.
As we observe the season of Lent, we receive
with thanksgiving this opportunity for grace and repentance,
recommit ourselves to our faith, and
remember our obligations to one another.”
