The canter of the deer
out in the bare wood
reminding me of the pictures
on the TV
The bright clearing
as like the fairgrounds
as if in dressage
prancing on the ground
The head and tail
fully erect
waiting for a rider
to climb on its back
Thin from the winter
the struggle for food
yet elegant in performance
striding in the world
