We should be sure
that we always strive
giving the tools
keeping families together
Instead we are cutting
the fabric of society
the rope of the safety net
as thin as cheesecloth
Cruel choices being made
in the hall of power
keeping ill-gotten gain
and stepping on our neighbors
They are paying
for our greed, our excess
we should be ashamed
at the burden they carry
so we can keep our goodies,
mere treasures of this earth
