Like the animals
in ancient Israel
brought into the tabernacle
to become the sacrifice
The innocent, pure
the animals unblemished
under the law
they had to be clean
Our hands upon them
placing our sins
the nation’s forgiven
in repenting to Thee
But the blood that will be spilled
the pain that will be felt
because we put our hands on them
not repenting instead
Keeping our money
our treasure, our power
with our hands upon them
they become our sacrifice
