The Tug of Two Masters

Was it mere complacency
comfort of the believers
satisfied to believe
no more and no less
was it the tug of two masters
of mammon and God
were they sitting at his feet
yet not moving at all
The lesson Christ gave them
believing not enough
hard words for the faithful
to leave the world
to go into the world
commissioned for a purpose
going to spread his message
to be his hands and feet
to act on our belief
to share our gifts freely
turning our back on family
to be our master’s servants
working in the vineyard
more people for the harvest
when the judgment comes
heeding only God’s calling
wherever he may lead
