the word of the Lord was rare

In the time of the prophets
before the kings were called
the priests not faithful
the calm before a fall
the word of the Lord was rare
they failed to feel his presence
judgment soon to come
meted out in punishment
yet God was ready still
to speak to his people
only to be open
to be read to listen
