eat flesh; drink blood

We don’t want to go to that place
to taste human flesh
to think of the juice as his blood
to truly feast on Christ
Yet He doesn’t give us a choice
we are to be in this moment
in union with them around the table
reclining with the living Christ
To eat flesh; drink blood
to gorge ourselves on his banquet
his sacrifice, his love
alive in our mouths,
conscious of the costs
the price he paid for us
awkward yet unflinching,
taking the path he chose
following our risen Lord
eating of his body,
drinking of his blood
