Air given substance
mass, dimensions
as if we could cut it
and serve it on a plate
Now suddenly summer
hot, humid, thick
burning off the morning
a coolness of spring
weight in the air
Yet the sounds, the motion
waking of new morning
tamped down, slowed
the minutes longer
as if by heavy, sticky air
Web of the morning
lowered to the ground
as though an invisible blanket
our world ensnared, wrapped
in the waves of the heat
Air given substance
form, function
as if it was a bed of kelp
in the tidal waters
