Far too cold for
speedos, summer,
An early winter
upon us
The sky
bluish-gray, snowing
the clouds
glowering down upon us, below zero;
Within the scope
of its influence
Mt. Katahdin, The
Mountain,
Drifting snow,
blowing, calling
us to the woods,
to walking in snow shoes.
The season of
Santa Claus coming
footprints of the
moose, the deer,
woolly-bear caterpillars
in the lee of the branches,
harbingers of
winter, encased in ice
An igloo in the
trees, sky blue, windy,
sparkly under the
icecap, needing
a dog sled,
sledding deeper;
Longing for fire,
the warmth of home
memories of
Christmas, of family, presents,
Eating ham and
football, of ice fishing,
skating on the
frozen pond,
our trees with
lights.
All still within,
frozen silent,
our breath a cloud
before us
wanting to stay
indoors, warm,
when there is snow
on the mountain.
