herself on the altar – v3

the widow came forward
what must the others have noticed
her old clothing, the curve of her back
bent over, stooped,
what must they have expected
she gave but two coins
but it was herself on the altar
the widow in the temple
offering to God
all that she had
all that she was
she gave but two coins
symbols only, of her offering
all of what she had
herself on the altar
this is what she only
offered unto God
