May
this day be, may we be as a people
A
rock thrown in the pond,
full
force, or maybe, just maybe,
thousands
of pebbles, hurled, dropped,
even
gently coaxed into the water
from
around the globe, this earth,
however
we are gifted, wherever we are
ripples,
reverberating, echoing,
growing
into a groundswell
a
tsunami, if we have force, a movement,
to
change the face of the planet
to
change the discussion at least for a day
onto
on topic - inequality, injustice,
where
we live, the place we call home
however
we choose to share it
letting
the whole world know
we
care about injustice , we will speak,
we
will act today, together,
to
speak truth to power
that
we are not okay with the status quo
with
things standing as they are
sharing
our passion, our compassion
trying
to truly be neighbors
around
this whole troubled world
But, maybe the metaphor shouldn’t be
pebbles thrown into the pond,
ripples expanding outward, spreading;
maybe the more apt analogy
the hope, and the trepidation
for a day focused on our issue
is the idea of a hammer blow to the ice
to change the course of a glacier
to right the scales of justice
the ice becoming thin and melting,
or just growing perhaps, the changes,
the hollow thud and shock waves below
Creating
cracks, fissures,
the faint then growing thunder
of the cracks building, splitting,
shards of jagged edges,
calving without apparent order
crushing, falling into the ice stew
to ponder and explore
seeing a rise of justice
equality between peoples
across the planet, rising
from the kernel of an idea
to focus on our issue,
at least for one day
