In stubbornness, in pride
I leave, I run away
I go my own direction,
defiant
denying the need for the
cross
denying the need for God
thinking I am able, on my
own,
independent in myself
In stubbornness,
self-centeredness
as if in my own person,
creation
I believe the lie of the
self-made man
the Horatio Alger stories,
pulling myself up by my
bootstraps,
not needing the Creator, the
Savior
lost in the myth, our
collective self-delusion
In stubbornness, in
blindness
wandering in the same filth
the one, the Prodigal Son
the pigs eating fully
but I am lost, hungry,
empty,
needing the cross, to
survive,
needing God’s love
