all was calm finally
after the shepherds departed
after the chorus went quiet
the animals at rest
her husband asleep
Mary alone with Jesus
held to her breast
all was calm finally
on that noisy night
she had given birth
to the Savior, Jesus,
the Messiah long foretold
He would save His people
but she was at peace
calm in the stable
time to get some sleep
Christ ready for his manger bed
after the journey
from Nazareth
to the stable
after the waiting
the coming of Christ
after the starlight
the coming of the shepherds
all was bright
alone with Christ
Joseph was sleeping
the animals were quiet
gently stroking
his sleeping brow
feeling his breathing
against her in the darkness
holding Jesus to her
the Savior of us all
