The same stand of birches
between the north bound and
south bound
up here in northern Maine
the same stand of birches
drawing my eye, my attention
early yesterday morning
on the way to Bangor, again
The same stand of birches
now summer birches
the young maples growing
up in the glade, the opening
between the groomed way
the bright young green
the white of the trunk
Basking in the sun
as I drive by
the same stand of birches
that always catches my eye
