I paused today to remember
I still myself, quiet,
to read once again, to cherish
those words of mettle, of conviction
of resolve, of hope, of our faith in this Dream
at the birthing, the founding of our nation.
Those words are part of the thread, the history,
the Dream, the story that is America;
Those words written in Philadelphia
proclaimed the sins of our King.
The prayers of the Colonies
of their hope for a future
stating aloud our grievances,
the roots of our democracy;
That is what we believe, what we dream,
and what we celebrate still each year.
