if our vessels were perfect – v4

in some way I am thankful, truly,
that things are as they are in the present
that we are in fact broken, crushed
that there are cracks, there are fissures,
in our earthen lives, in our clay, in our bodies
that our spirits are shattered, broken

if our vessels were perfect, unblemished,
if there was no brokenness in us, seamless,
we could hide the light, the Spirit, the fire,
that Christ has put within us;
we would think we don’t need Jesus
if we were unbroken, complete, perfect

if our vessels were perfect
if there were no cracks in us
in the skin of our clay, our bodies
if our earthen vessels were seamless,
if we were not broken
we could hide the light of Jesus

we need our imperfections
our brokenness, our fissures,
to be healed, to find wholeness
we need our cracks, our gaps
for the light to shine through us
to share Christ with the world
as we are called to do
