Shame

The weight of my sin
heavy, the color of dark crimson,
far more than guilt for what I had done
shame a weight on my soul…
drowning my joy in life…
 
Crushing defeat, emptiness,
a longing to be made whole
wanting to rise from my pit,
to be restored to God…
to walk the streets of gold…
 
Only in letting go of my shame,
though I carry still the scars of guilt,
sin, the things I had done still haunt me
in the watches of the night…
but God has taken my shame…
