guard your tongue

keep your mouth shut

filter your words with Jesus

with the heart of Christ

don’t carry anger

don’t spew hate

don’t speak bile

shouted out loud

we carry the words

that leave our lips

what would be the picture

they would project

the words we speak

take on a life all their own

the stings last, eternal,

though we deny their power
