Is this mike on,

I’m standing on my soapbox

I raising my voice

don’t speak bile – v3
think before you speak
listen more than you speak
turn the other cheek
as Jesus said
guard your tongue
keep your mouth shut
filter your words with Jesus
with the heart of Christ
don’t carry anger
don’t spew hate
don’t speak bile
shouted out loud
we carry the words
that leave our lips
what would be the picture
they would project
the words we speak
take on a life all their own
the stings last, eternal,
though we deny their power
don’t speak bile
lift others up
your family, our neighbors
all those we are to love

without peace – v2
too many hurting
without peace, depression
no sense of purpose in this
life
fighting the slings and
arrows
no end in sight
going back to bed
pulling the covers over them
so many lost in this world
captured by their own demons
needing the light of God
the gift of grace
yearning to breathe free
to touch Salvation’s face.

Becoming Bold – v3
shouting, proclaiming
the Gospel of love
the timid given voice
seeking, sharing
the one message, Christ
it was that one pivotal moment
when it all began
when the Word
moved from heaven to earth
falling on man
when the weak became bold
gained their voice, their strength
come out of hiding, speak truth to power,
to tell the world the precious story
to all who would listen, whatever the cost
the Christ, sacrificial lamb,
and Savior; that urgent truth
we cling too yet, commissioned as we are
by that same Savior, emboldened too
by that same Spirit, like tongues of fire
resting on our souls, fire,
searing the truth into us.
We too to share, the gospel,
the Good News, the message,
to the ends of the earth

love the people you meet – v2
I
remember well
your
words of warning
spoken
in silence
on
a written page only;
I
understand well
your
reluctance to expose
to
rip open the scar tissue
to
let the chips fall where they may
speaking
truth to power
I
saw again your words this morning
an
ache inside me,
an
injustice uncorrected
as
if time was enough
wanting
to speak out;
but
I saw your words
sharing
deep wisdom -
Love
all the people you meet;
leave
them to God

before hearts are broken
Before the words are spoken
before hearts are broken
Silence them Lord
close the mouths
before they open
before the words are spoken
to silence the judgment
before more damage is done
I pray You will no longer be
silent
knowing the importance about
which You speak
Do not leave the injustice
I pray this is the time
that You will speak
to speak truth to their power
to silence the judgment
before more damage is done

Fishermen – 3 – v2
They were fishermen,
ordinary men
unordained believers, cast
into the sea
into the wilderness, the
desert, the world
to become fishers of men,
changed forever
knowing Jesus, not enough
alone
needing to be emboldened
further, tempered
The indwelling Spirit, the
Spirit of God
growing power within them,
giving them power, authority
to heal, to preach, to speak
truth to power
to spread the Good News to
the Temple,
to the streets, out into the
world

Your Warnings
Your warnings, truth
spoken in silence
distance unexplained
left on the table
your warnings, anger
unresolved injustice
not the way it should be
within God’s kingdom
your warnings, sorrow
the struggles remaining
for you remained silent
when it was time to speak
your warnings, love
but as yet unrequited,
love an offering,
yet left on the table

hard for me, an advocate
hard for me, an advocate
learning the same lesson
to trust, to believe in God
turning things over
to God in prayer
wanting to speak, to cry out
to bark at the injustice
the continuation of the pain
the unresolved issues
a cloud yet remaining

the injustices remaining
