We worship – v2

we worship

not before God

not coming to the Savior

believing in the Creator

turning our backs,

our faces from God;

running away from him

following the world

we worship

at the altar of our desires

our snouts in the mud

wallowing in filth

forgetting our place,

as children of the King;

running away from him

following the world

Suckling at Gomer’s teat

And all of Jerusalem was troubled

with Herod, the false king

at the news of the wise men

the pagans from the East

come to worship the Christ-child

to bow at his feet

but none of them followed

suckling at Gomer’s teat

none of them faithful

none of them the least

Sinning before the Messiah

Sinning before the Messiah

before our risen Lord

knowing he was faithful

yet choosing the world

Sinning before our Savior

as Gomer to Hosea

our first love spurned

choosing other suitors

our choices damning

only God’s love sufficient

to redeem our brokenness

Sinning with Gomer

Out in the world

ignoring the Messiah

the babe born in the stable

the One sent to redeem us

God come from heaven

to save us from ourselves

while we were sinning with God

God saved the world

At the tit of Gomer

God loved us

God sent his son

we didn’t even join the Magi

going to find our king

the one foretold

to be born in Bethlehem

we stayed behind

in our power

in Jerusalem, sinning

at the tit of Gomer

unfaithful wives

of the bridegroom

wallowing in our sin

unrepentant, yet forgiven

Scandalous Love

Scandalous love for us

offered by our God

sending the Messiah

to heal our brokenness

Scandalous love for the unfaithful

like Gomer, each one of us

sinning before our bridegroom

our walk in this life

needing his healing, his sacrifice

unable to turn from the world

rolling around in our own filth

writhing in agony

God’s love for Gomer

God’s love for Gomer

God’s love for all of us

staying while we are unfaithful

redeeming us from the dust

sacrificing his own life

sending us his Son

sullying his reputation

loving us enough

to love, to never leave us

to heal our brokenness

Love of God – v2

So hard to accept

the analogy, the truth

God’s love for us

like the story of Gomer

the prodigal wife

unrepentant

cheating on him

turning to the world

spitting in his face

the truth in this scripture

we are Gomer

unfaithful to our lover

to our husband, Christ

who came to earth

who sacrificed his life

for us, while we yet sinned

Love of God fall

fall upon us again

change our hearts

turn from the world

into your arms

our only hope

your love for all

Mary’s Song of Faith

Even in her doubts

the glances of her neighbors

whispers in the darkness

those in her village

wondering why

how she was pregnant

not knowing what she did

Mary’s song of faith, Magnificat,

speaking of praise, of love

of trusting in God

no matter what, no matter

the chance that she could be stoned

Mary’s song of faith, forever

giving her life to God
