We carried the Christ

A Maundy Thursday,
dressed in black
feeling more acutely perhaps
meaning in the stripping,
the solemn steps
darkening the sanctuary,
after the meal,
the washing of the feet
leaving in silence
carrying the Christ
from the Garden
to the cross
