As bold as they became
through the birthing by the Spirit
the transformation on Pentecost
so were they scared, timid
on the Maundy Thursday, the Good Friday
wonder at the breaking of the break, sharing of the wine
gasp at the betrayal
scattered by his capture
despair at his condemnation
hurt in his flogging
lose all hope in his dying
mourn in his death
numb, dead as he was
in the cold new-hewn tomb
