the palms of his procession
welcoming the king
a reminder of his tempting,
his choice of service, of faith
honoring his calling, his fulfilling
withstanding the devil, submitting to God
being dirt, being clay, to the master’s will
shaped, touched by the potter’s hands
made a vessel at his baptism
sanctified on the mountain
worthy by his walk,
an offering, his earthly body,
the altar of the cross
But the grave only temporary
his place in heaven, once more,
leading the way, of grace
the journey of faith,
walking as our brother
humbly, before our God
leading from the earth,
from the ashes to glory
