Like Cleopas and the other
after the long apprenticeship
the years of his ministry
at the Master’s feet
Their minds opened
ready, as if for the first time,
the words of their teacher
the risen Christ with them
all of the scripture, the holy word
his life in fulfillment
of all that had been foretold
the scales lifted, their eyes aware
their eyes opened
to the grace of God
