The Christ, the Messiah
submitting to the Father
there in the garden
on the night of His betrayal
giving himself over
the priest the sacrifice
entering the holy of holies
the altar, the cross

The Priest Offering Himself
Christ, the priest
mediating with God
offering himself on the cross
a sacrifice of a pure, unblemished lamb
our sins place on him
Into the fires, the sin offering
taking the cup to his lips
taking on the suffering
the scripture fulfilled
his life given for us
Once and for all time
the law complete
the sins of the world wiped clean
the priest offering himself
for blood of the lamb
poured out for you and me

Matthew 26:39
“And he went a little further, and fell on his face,
and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible,
let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will,
but as thou wilt”. (KJV)
