No matter the hurt

He was a righteous man
but righteousness was mercy
not the code, the law
he didn’t want to stone her

No matter the hurt
taking the shame on himself
accepting the angel’s words
changing his life instead

To raise up the Messiah
the living Son of God
the one who was long foretold
submissive to God’s plan
